"In the Day of Trouble"
Introduction
In January 2006, God gave GHOPE its theme: God Delivers. I shared it
with the congregation. We were abundantly happy because we started
GHOPE's first year with assurance that what God promised he was able to
perform.
But what we did not consider is what it really means or meant. "God
Delivers". It appears at times that we have more faith in the pizza man,
Chinese food deliveryman than we have in God's ability to deliver. To
get the pizza or Chinese food you have to order something to get
something. So it is with God's Deliverance. To my amazement, I realized
or rather the Holy Spirit pointed out that in order for God to deliver
us out of something; we had to be in something. Talking about an eye
opener. You mean I have to be in trouble before God can deliver me.
"Ureke"
Sometimes we think we can solve our own problems or get out of troubles.
We think we do not need God, but the truth is God does not really need
us. He is God all by himself. We need him. He says in his word "If I
were hungry, I would not tell you: for the world is mine, and the
fullness thereof." (Psalm 50: 12)
In the Day of Trouble
So it is today, I want to talk a little about "In the Day of Trouble".
You see our little Noami's lungs got in trouble this year. Our young
brother Zack's lungs got in trouble this year. The Atkins family living
situation got in trouble this year. The Jackson family living situation
got in trouble this year. Trustee Jackson's work situation got in
trouble this year. Locating a permanent sanctuary for GHOPE has
encountered obstacles this year.
The GHOPE's first year is coming to a close and I want to remind us that
in all these things God Delivers. Romans 8:37 "Nay -- no, in all these
things (troubles) we are more than conquerors through him
(Jesus-God-Holy Spirit) that loved us." It is in trouble that we realize
that what God promises he delivers in the powerful name of Jesus. We are
more than conquerors. Ordinary people are conquerors, but the saints of
God are MORE THAN!!!!
We walk by faith in Romans 8: 38: For I am persuaded that neither death,
nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present,
nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall
be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
But my God tells GHOPE: Psalm 50:15 "And call upon me in the day of
trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shall glorify me." In the Day of
Trouble, he wants us to call him. To what can we compare his
qualifications to deliver. He is more powerful than 911, faster than dotnet, more knowledgeable about our needs than the most learned doctor.
Have faith in God's deliverance. God's perfect prescription for
glorifying him is to be ingested, breath in daily doses of intake
before, during, and after deliverance.
He provides us further instructions in Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I
will answer you, and shew you great and mighty things, which thou
knowest not.
Instruction for deliverance: Call me
Promise of deliverance: I will answer you
Promise of deliverance: I will show you (he dares us to believe)
Promise of delivering what: Great and mighty things
Promise of deliverance: You will know it is God-Jesus who delivered you
because in the natural you cannot explain the ways and means of his
deliverance.
In closing, our responsibility, our obligation, our duty, our purpose is
to do what God desires: thou shall glorify me. How can we glorify God?
Live a life pleasing to him and share the stories (testimony) of how God
delivers us.
